was anyone stopped by the police while travelling up north on july 1/06 weekend?
we were pulled in by the police in Port Perry and our truck and trailer taken off the road for potential safety hazards. Our license plates were taken right away without telling us we had till 5 pm that day to fix the problems. Families like us were left stranded in the compound with families with small childre and seniors and no way to get anywhere. Some people had there plates riped right off their cars with nuts and bolts flying everywhere. Meanwhile people that lived in the area were let go with time to fix their cars, no plates riped off. One truck had holes in it you could stick your head in and let go while ours had a couple of holes the size of a quarter and we were considered a potential safty hazard. How can they get away with this.Isn,t the law suppose to be equal to everyone not just who you know. We need to fight back .How can the police do this to people without any help to the poor families left stranded like this?
Sorry to hear you were stranded .
They’ve been doing the safety blitz every long weekend throughout the summers for the last few years in cottage country. They’re usually looking for improperly hitched trailers, loose unsecured loads, lack of tail lights on trailers & the old Fred Flintstone floorboards.
Also targeting unsafe speeds & enforcing seatbelt laws. Had a couple of guys fly past me up the 400 must have been doing over 160km per hour I waved to them a few clicks later.
Complain to the McGuinty government it’s thier push on the blitz.

1812 $25.95 In June 1812 the still-infant United States had the audacity to declare war on the British Empire. Fought between creaking sailing ships and armies often led by bumbling generals, the ensuing conflict featured a tit-for-tat You burned our capital, so we’ll burn yours and a legendary battle unknowingly fought after the signing of a peace treaty. During the course of the war, the young American navy proved its mettle as the USS Constitution, Old Ironsides, sent two first-rate British frigates to the bottom, and a twenty-seven-year-old lieutenant named Oliver Hazard Perry hoisted a flag exhorting, Don’t Give Up the Ship, and chased the British from Lake Erie. By 1814, however, the United States was no longer fighting for free trade, sailors’ rights, and as much of Canada as it could grab, but for its very existence as a nation. With Washington in flames, only a valiant defense at Fort McHenry saved Baltimore from a similar fate. Here are the stories of commanding generals such as America’s Henry Granny Dearborn, double-dealing James Wilkinson, and feisty Andrew Jackson, as well as Great Britain’s gallant Sir Isaac Brock, overly cautious Sir George Prevost, and Rear Admiral George Cockburn, the man who put the torch to Washington. Here too are those inadvertently caught up in the war, from heroine farm wife Laura Secord, whom some call Canada’s Paul Revere, to country doctor William Beanes, whose capture set the stage for Francis Scott Key to write The Star-Spangled Banner. 1812: The War That Forged a Nation presents a sweeping narrative that emphasizes the struggle’s importance to America’s coming-of-age as a nation. Though frequently overlooked between the American Revolution and the Civil War, the War of 1812 did indeed span half a continent — from Mackinac Island to New Orleans, and Lake Champlain to Horseshoe Bend — and it paved the way for the conquest of the other half. During the War of 1812, the United States cast aside its c |

Around Perry $21.99 Fertile land, waterpower, energetic residents, and a sea serpent all contributed to the growth of the town and village of Perry. The town of Perry was first settled in 1807, and later took the name of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, the hero of the War of 1812. Early mills along Silver Creek provided materials for the growing village, which was incorporated in 1830. Perry made headlines in 1855, when a sea serpent was sighted on Silver Lake and people flocked to the area. The mystery went unsolved until remains of the hoax were found in the ashes of the Walker House in 1857. Perry continued to grow, with Main Street businesses changing with the needs of residents. Later industries replaced the early mills, and immigrants arrived to work in the textile factories. Educational, religious, and civic buildings were added to the community, and farms grew in the countryside. |

Decision at Sea $18.94 From thunderous broadsides traded between wooden sailing ships on Lake Erie, to the carrier battles of World War II, to the devastating high-tech action in the Persian Gulf, here is a gripping history of five key battles that defined the evolution of naval warfare–and the course of theAmerican nation. Acclaimed military historian Craig Symonds offers spellbinding narratives of crucial engagements, showing how each battle reveals the transformation of technology and weaponry from one war to the next; how these in turn transformed naval combat; and how each event marked a milestone in Americanhistory. BL Oliver Hazard Perry’s heroic victory at Lake Erie, one of the last great battles of the Age of Sail, which secured the Northwestern frontier for the United States BL The brutal Civil War duel between the ironclads Monitor and Virginia, which sounded the death knell for wooden-hulled warships and doomed the Confederacy’s hope of besting the Union navy BL Commodore Dewey’s stunning triumph at Manila Bay in 1898, where the U.S. displayed its new navy of steel-hulled ships firing explosive shells and wrested an empire from a fading European power BL The hairsbreadth American victory at Midway, where aircraft carriers launched planes against enemies 200 miles away–and where the tide of World War II turned in the space of a few furious minutes BL Operation Praying Mantis in the Persian Gulf, where computers, ship-fired missiles, and smart bombs not only changed the nature of warfare at sea, but also marked a new era, and a new responsibility, for the United States. Symonds records these encounters in detail so vivid that readers can hear the windin the rigging and feel the pounding of the guns. Yet he places every battle in a wide perspective, revealing their significance to America’s development as it grew from a new Republic on the edge of a threateningfrontier to a global superpower. Decision at Sea is a powerful a |
